April Social Media Content Calendar

Throughout my social media managing experience, I’ve used several different calendars. I’ve made spreadsheets in Google Docs, I’ve set up tables in Evernote, I’ve created events in my Apple Calendar, and I’ve handwritten things down in a real-life planner. All have worked for a period of time, but now I really enjoy creating my own social media content calendar.

I’ve tried scheduling out post ideas for one week, or two weeks, or so at a time, but I’ve found that taking the time out at the beginning of the month to create a content plan for the entire month really makes things flow smoothly for me.

It’s all about trial and error, people.

For some reason, creating content for my own social media is ridiculously harder than creating content for a business’s social media. I’ve recently started a new Facebook Page for Chloe Social because Facebook wouldn’t let me change the name of my old one. This means it’s time to get supa serious about my own social media presence.

(P.S. Go like my new Facebook Page if you’re awesome.)

But I digress.

Social media marketing is about more than just promoting yourself. Social media marketing is about putting out awesome content that people want to see. By regularly putting out engaging and interesting posts, people will automatically flock to your social media profiles, and, as a result, your website.

I wanted to share this month’s social media content calendar with you guys so that you can have your own guide for awesome content to share on your social media accounts.

Two rules:

  1. Stay true to your voice and share content that you truly enjoy as well.
  2. Each of these posts is in addition to your own daily (weekly, every-other-daily, or whatever) blog promotion.

I post to my blog 2-3 times each week, so any time a new post goes live, I share it on all of my social media channels. However, even on off days, I’m continuing to repost links to old content. That way my archives never go bad.

So, without further ado, please click on the image in order to download your own copy of the calendar!

Now, how do you use this calendar?

First, decide which of your social media accounts you plan to work on hardcore. For me, it will be Facebook. I’m also working on my Twitter, but I’m just plain better at Twitter than I am at any other platforms, so my main focus will be on my Facebook. But you can easily use this calendar with any of your social media, be it Facebook, Google+, or LinkedIn.

Secondly, there are several different routes that you can go with each one of the mentioned categories. I have given you a basic template (the same template that I will be following–remember, guys, this is my own social media calendar that I’m sharing with you!) that you can choose to follow to the letter or that you can just use as a guide, referring to it whenever you’re at a loss for something to post.

Here are the various categories of social media content:

  • Holidays
  • Quotes
  • Curation
  • Humor
  • Homework Assignments
  • Behind-the-Scenes
  • Instagram
  • Question of the Day
  • Freebies
  • Video
  • Infographics

Third, decide on your posting method. You may choose to post day-by-day, or you may choose to set aside enough time in one afternoon to schedule all of your social media posts for the rest of the month. I recommend Buffer for scheduling.

If you do choose to download this calendar, please leave me the links to the social media accounts you’re going to be working on the most this month. I’d love to see your creative twists on these categories!

P.S. Do you have any other suggestions to add for social media content categories? Please tell me about your favorite types of content to share and to see on social media!

This is such a great idea! I had a break with my social media over the last couple of months, a combo of being insanely busy and breaking my phone and am looking to get back into it. I had written in my to do list 'Devise a weekly social media schedule' but I love your example so I'm going to try out monthly too :)
