How to Create a Mission Statement for Your Blog

Blogging is a great outlet because you can use it in so many different ways. You can blog anonymously, just because you want to write. You can blog for your family. You can blog just as a hobby. Or you can blog for your business.

Regardless of what use you’re using your blog for, it’s important to have a mission statement for your blog in order to keep you motivated and to help you know what your end goal is. What is a mission statement? Simply put, it’s just the aim or objective of your blog.

For example, the mission statement of Chloe Social is to help bloggers + small business owners learn how to DIY their own social media marketing. This mission statement helps to keep me on track with my focus.

So why do you need a mission statement? Well like I said before, it’s to help you reach your end goal and know what your purpose for blogging is. If you’re not blogging with a purpose then it’s easy to fall off the bandwagon. By asking yourself the following questions, you can create your own blog’s mission statement.

1. Why do I want to blog?
My answer: I am passionate about my work in social media and frankly, I just love to talk about it.

2. Who do I want to blog for?
My answer: Other bloggers + creatives + small business owners.

3. What do I want to provide to my readers?
My answer: Expert tips + helpful resources.

4. What do I want to accomplish with my blog?
My answer: I want to turn my blog into my own social media marketing business. I also want my blog to be seen as a go-to for all things social media.

5. How will your readers interact with you?
My answer: I can be found on many social networks: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, and LinkedIn. After all, I am a social media manager. ;)

6. How do you want to be perceived?
My answer: I want to be friendly and informative with the posts that I write and share on this blog. I love to chat with people and always want others to feel welcome and comfortable asking for advice or specific help with an issue or just saying hi!

By answering these questions, you’ll be able to understand your purpose for blogging and what you hope to achieve with your blog. You can see my answers to get a good understanding of what each question is asking you. Creating a mission statement will help you not only to create and reach goals with your blog, but to keep your blogging focused and on track.

I'm so glad you wrote this Chloe. Writing a mission statement is something I really struggle with. I love how you broke it down in to easy to digest chunks.

I once read some advice that every blogger should be able to describe their blog in 3 words. Again, something I've really struggled with. I'm going to have a look at it this weekend. I'll let you know how it turns out!
